Vision & Aims

We want all carers in Brighton and Hove to be able to make real choices about their lives and about the care they provide.  We believe they should be treated as equal partners by health and social care agencies and other service providers.

We believe that no-one under eighteen should carry caring responsibilities that adversely affect their development; and that statutory services should provide adequate support for families to avoid the need for children to take on a significant caring role.

In working towards our vision we will:

  • Provide services for carers to help them cope with their situation, get the support to which they are entitled, and to participate in the community of our city.
  • Campaign to raise awareness of carers and ensure that carers have a real voice in order to influence local public services, to improve the support they offer to carers and to the people they care for and to promote support for families that reduces the reliance on children as carers.
  • Identify and reach out to hidden and isolated carers to ensure that they have access to services.
  • Aim to be a model of good practice in all that we do.
