  • Sussex Caring for Carers Conference 2017

    You are invited to celebrate Carers Week 2017 with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School at the Sussex Caring for Carers Conference 2017. Local researchers and organisations will share what they are doing to improve the support available to carers. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about carer research, put your questions to the researchers, and find out how you can get involved. This event is open to everyone - including carers, care recipients, researchers, and clinicians. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Free Admission for all Book online now

  • Are you supporting someone going through Cancer?

    You might hear the term 'carer' and think that's not you, but if you are supporting someone with cancer there is information and support available. On Friday June 16th 2017 as part of Carers Week we're holding an event at the Macmillan Horizon Centre where people can find out about the different types of support available for people caring for and supporting someong with cancer. From 10.30am - 1pm there will be:

    • opportunities to meet others who are supporting a loved one
    • information about support the Horizon Centre offers.
    • a chance to be pampered (ear acupuncture, facials, seated acupressure massage and makeover by Boots No. 7 advisers to get the summer glow)
    • information stands from support organisations across Sussex
    • refreshments available
    From 1.30 - 3pm There will be a focus group discussion, open for people caring for someone with cancer and carers with a cancer diagnosis, to identify gaps in information and support.     We offer a tranquil growing space for current & bereaved carers to enjoy, or for enthusiastic volunteers to get involved with. Come along for tea, biscuits, breathtaking views of the Downs and Sea. Get involved in food growth, flower/seed planting, weeding, watering and fruit maintenance.   • Dementia Friendly Screening - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

    Join The Duke of Yorks for their regular programme of classic movies for people living with dementia and their families, friends and carers.

    Screenings take place on the fourth Friday of every month.

    Free tea and coffee from 10.30am, film starts at 11.00am. With a 20 minute interval halfway through the film.

    Do you care for someone who has had a stroke? Would you like to meet other carers and access specialist information on stroke and carers' services? We run a monthly group for Stroke Carers on the last Friday morning of each month from 10.30 - 12 noon in a central location.
