National Campaigns

Thank you to eveyone who responded to the Keep Counting Carers campaign. In 2007 Carers UK discovered the question about caring was under threat from a lack of funding and began a campaign to Keep Counting Carers. The Carers Centre co-ordinated a local response and in April the Government confirmed that extra funding would be made available and the carers question could be included in England and Wales. This was quickly followed by confirmation that the question could be included in Scotland.  Information from the census is vital in ensuring we understand the nature and extent of caring.

Real Change Not Short Change

Carers UK are campaigning for a change in the benefits system in order to recognise the contribution that carers make. Carers Allowance is currently the lowest benefit of its kind leaving many carers in a position of poverty.Full details about this campaign can be found at www.carersuk.org/Newsandcampaigns/Shortchanged
